67 die in rain-caused disasters

Kathmandu, July 15 (RSS): As many as 67 persons lost their lives in the rain-caused disasters occurred in various parts of the country till Monday afternoon, according to the Police Headquarters.

The Police Headquarters recorded the death of 3 persons in Kathmandu, 6 in Makwanpur, 5 each in Lalitpur, Rautahat and Bhojpur, 4 each in Okhaldhunga, Siraha and Sindhuli, 3 each in Khotang, Dhanusha, and Kavrepalanchowk, 2 each in Jhapa, Udayapur, Parsa, Bara, Mahottari, Dhading and Dolpa, and 1 each in Ilam, Panchthar, Morang, Sunsari, Ramechhap, Chitwan, Palpa and Dang. Among the dead, 41 are male and 25 females.

Similarly, 32 persons have gone missing in the floods and landslides. Among them, 14 are female and 18 male, the police added. Nine persons have gone missing in landslides, 4 in Sindhuli, 3 each in Ilam and Morang, 2 each in Mahottari and Makwanpur, and 1 each in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Jhapa, Sunsari, Parsa, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Dhading, and Dang.

The number of those injured in the disasters has reached 39. The injured people are receiving treatment at the local health facilities.

The police have rescued 1,445 persons alive and taken them to safer locations. Moreover, the police have cleared the obstructions on the road at various places. The works to resume traffic by clearing the obstruction on the roads of Lalitpur, Makwanpur, Ramechhap, Mustang, Manang, Okhaldhunga, Bhojpur, Rautahat, Mahottari, Palpa,Kalikot and others are going on. 

Although temporary diversion was created at Bhapsi rivulet along the East-West Highway in Mahottari, the rising water level hindered the operation.
