The Asia-Pacific Forestry Week 2019 (APFW 2019) successfully completed in Incheon, South Korea

Kathmandu, 1 July : The Asia-Pacific Forestry Week 2019 (APFW 2019) and the 28th Session of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission (APFC) was jointly organized by the Korea Forest Service (KFS) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The event was held in Songdo ConvensiA Convention Center, Incheon, the Republic of Korea from 17-21 June 2019.

APFW 2019 was one of the largest and most important forestry gatherings in the Asia-Pacific region in 2019. APFW 2019 was the fourth Asia-Pacific Forestry Week following events held in Hanoi, Viet Nam in April 2008, Beijing, China in November 2011, and Pampanga, the Philippines in February 2016. APFW 2019 comprised various workshops, seminars, and other partner events organized along five streams namely i) Restoring our forests and landscapes, ii) People and forests living in harmony, iii) Building a resilient environment, iv) Promoting responsible trade and markets and iv) Innovating governance and institutions.

The Week provided a venue for a multitude of forestry practitioners across the region that allowed discussion and sharing views on the most pressing challenges in the forestry sector.APFW 2019 was supported by various partners and collaborators including governments, NGOs, researchers, academia, and the private sector.

The Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission (APFC) is one of the six regional forestry commissions established by FAO to provide a policy and technical forum for countries to discuss and address forest issues on a regional basis. FAO encourages wide participation of government officials from forestry and other sectors as well as representatives of international, regional and sub-regional organizations that deal with forest-related issues in the region, including NGOs, academia, and the private sector. 

There were more than 10 participants from Nepal who participated the APFW2019. The secretary of the Ministry of Forest and Environment of GoN led the government delegation. Nepal has been elected as the vice chair of the Asia Pacific Forestry Commission for next two years.
