Stranded tourists rescued, transported to Kathmandu

Pokhara, May 1 : As many as 935 foreign tourists stranded in Pokhara due to lockdown have been rescued and transported to Kathmandu. The rescue was carried out at the initiative of the embassies of the respective countries, said Inspector Ganesh Khanal. 

Swiss Embassy took the initiative to rescue 69 Swiss tourists, he said. Other tourists who have been rescued are from France (40), Germany (11), Poland, Norway, Belgium, Portugal, Australia, Italy, Canada, Sweden, Netherlands and Romania. 

Health examination of the tourists was carried out before their rescue to Kathmandu. 

Meanwhile, the French Embassy in Kathmandu has organized a chartered aircraft to transport its citizens stranded in Nepal to France on May 2. 

The European Union is also working to rescue and repatriate stranded tourists to their home country, said tourism entrepreneur Basanta Dawadi. (RSS)
