National unity a must to control COVID-19: NA

Kathmandu, May 27 (RSS): The Nepal Army has made preparation to mobilize health supplies, security and information for prevention, control and resilience for COVID-19 in further effective manner. 

In a virtual conference organized by Nepal Army here on Wednesday to provide information about initiatives taken to control COVID-19 infection and progress made on Kathmandu-Tarai Madhesh fast-track project, it was shared that national solidarity was necessary among stakeholders to control COVID-19. 

Saying COVID-19 infection is still under control, Major Nabin Phunyal, said, “The area of test has been widened in an effective manner. So coronavirus infection is still under the control. Various preparations including expansion of test have been made keeping the possible risk in coming days in mind.” 

The government has already announced to test coronavirus on two per cent of the total population. Meanwhile, NA further shared that the lockdown would not hamper the completion of the Kathmandu- Tarai Madhesh fast track within the deadline. 

Chief of the project, Brigadier General Sharad Lal Shrestha said, “Though there are some challenges to forward the project in a smooth manner due to COVID-19, the lockdown has not hampered completing the project on the deadline so far.”

Saying challenges might be surfaced to complete the project on time if lockdown prolongs, he said, “Activities will be carried out making other alternatives and action plan if such situation surfaces.” 

On the occasion, NA Spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey, pointed out the need of national unity to control COVID-19.

He shared that some health supplies purchased from China have already been brought while the remaining would arrive within few days.

The NA has set target to construct the 72-km road from Khokana to Nijgadh within the fiscal year 2080/81.
