Probe report on Soti incident soon

Rukum (West), June 1 (RSS): Coordinator of the High level probe committee formed to investigate into the Soti (Rukum) incident, Jitendra Basnet has shared that the committee was investigating into the incident. In a press meet here today, coordinator Basnet said that the committee will submit its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs as soon as possible.

He said that investigation process was forwarded after meeting with both sides (boy and girl), locals, rights activists, journalists, security bodies and other eyewitnesses.

The incident occurred after Nawaraj Biswokarma, 21, of Bheri Municipality, Jajarkot, along with his 18 friends went to Soti village to escort a girl from the ‘Malla’ clan on May 23. The group, however, was confronted by the locals in Soti village, including ward chair Dambar Bahadur Malla and the girl’s family that evening.

The boys were reportedly attacked and chased towards the Bheri River. Of the six youths, the bodies of five, including Nawaraj, were recovered while one is still missing. The incident is widely condemned and demands for impartial investigation have been made.
